Power Training Services WA operates facilities for classroom learning and practical hands-on technical training. Located 15 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. Parking is available on site.
Technical Training Facilities
Power Training Services WA has purpose built facilities for overhead powerline, switching operations and underground cable training.
Overhead Powerline Facility
This outdoor overhead training facility contains a wide range of structural configurations, pole mounted equipment and system voltages used in Australia including:
- 12.7kV to 19.1kV single phase;
- 22kV; and
- 33kV.
Switching Operations Training Facility
Our fully operational low and high voltage switching operations facility can be energised to 11kV to create a realistic operating environment, and is the only one of its kind in Australia. It has an operations room with:
- a wide range of ring main switchgear and circuit breakers;
- 11kV double bus switchboard with circuit breakers and protection system;
- 66kV zone substation protection panel;
- a system fault simulator;
- electronic recloser mimic panels; and
- a range of network fault indication equipment.
This indoor/outdoor facility includes an 11kV overhead system, complete with pole and ground mounted distribution transformers, air break switches and various other pole-mounted switchgear.
System faults can be simulated, allowing participants to develop fault diagnostics and emergency switching skills.
Underground Cable Training Facility
The underground cable training facility simulates a real workplace, providing a relevant and rewarding learning environment. This indoor/outdoor facility caters for both polymeric and paper-lead cables, providing a range of pillars, pole terminations and transformers with voltages up to 66kV.
