Approval to connect a solar PV system under or equal to 3kW
For some solar PV systems ≤ 3kW, Western Power has implemented a notification only process, providing ALL of the following conditions are met.
Eligibility conditions for notification only process
Customer
- Residential customers only.
- Customer is the electricity account holder for the property.
- PV supplier has an agreement with the customer to install the system.
Property where PV system will be installed
- The property is in the Perth metropolitan area (including Fremantle and Mandurah) or in the townships of Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton or Kalgoorlie. Click here to view the full list of 'Western Power automatic approvals only authorised locations' (PDF 100kb)
- The property has an existing bi-directional meter installed, or arrangement has been made to install a bi-directional meter before connection of the PV system (The customer must advise their electricity retailer of their intent to connect generation and the retailer will arrange for any necessary change to metering. This advice is separate to any arrangement about buyback schemes.).
- No existing generation on the property is connected to the Western Power network.
- Supply to property after installation of the PV system is within Western Power standard supply. Click here for more information about standard supply.
System
- Must be a photovoltaic (PV) system.
- PV system capacity ≤ 3kW and only one system to be connected.
- PV system is on the current Western Power authorised PV system list (PDF 72kb).
- PV system must have no energy storage connected (i.e. no batteries).
My PV system meets all conditions
If your proposed PV system meets all of the above conditions, Western Power only requires to be notified about your new connection.
Please complete a Notification of connection – residential PV system ≤ 3kW form (PDF 170kb) and return completed form to Western Power via:

Following the notification submission, an automated response will confirm receipt and you may proceed with installation of your system.
My system DOES NOT meet all conditions
