New connections

Note: The following information is about the physical connection between the electricity network and a new building or property. 

You need to apply for a new commercial power connection when:

  • setting up a new business (including a small business in a residential area) and require more than 32 Amps three-phase or 63 Amps single-phase
  • moving to premises with no previous commercial power connection
  • developing a commercial or industrial subdivision

How to apply

Type of connection Action Costs
Connect to the distribution network at 33kV or less
Complete the online design and quotation application form with assistance from an electrical contractor.
We will send you a quote
Connect to the distribution network at 66kV or more. Complete the transmission load application form with assistance from an electrical contractor.

How much will it cost?

Connections are assessed and quoted on a case-by-case basis. However you may be eligible for the subsidised pole-to-pillar rate.

Additional charges may be incurred in the following instances:

Type of fee Service Current cost
Network service fee New overhead standard supply - approved cases only $550
Network service fee Connect underground consumer mains to pillar $450
Part payment arrangement fee  Charged for changes made by the customer to the normal payment scheme offered.  $550 (inc GST)
Project cancellation fee Charged if the customer cancels or changes the job before construction starts and/or if any design costs are incurred.  $550 (inc GST) plus design costs
Administration fee  An administration fee may also be charged if the job is cancelled or changes are made after construction starts and/or any costs are incurred prior to cancellation or scope change.  $550 plus costs incurred (GST inc on admin only)


Who is your electricity retailer?

We transport electricity through the network, but do not sell it. You buy electricity from an electricity retailer that manages your account and sends your electricity bill.
