Demolition disconnection
The demolition process starts with the electricity retailer. The property owner must finalise their electricity account and request the removal of the electricity supply for demolition.
You do not need to contact Western Power for demolition of standard supplies. Non-Standard installations may require additional action eg Direct Cabling in CBD. Refer below for further information.
When the demolished site is subsequently built on again, this is considered a brand new connection, and an underground application form will need to be submitted to Western Power.
If you only require the power to be cut off temporarily, or have the service moved or changed, then we do not need to remove the supply altogether. In this case a private electrician needs to be engaged. If the Electrical Contractor is appropriately accredited then they can complete this work themselves. However if their accreditation doesn’t cover this work they will need to submit a Network Services Form with an Electrical Work Notice to Western Power.
Types of demolition disconnections
Overhead connection
A demolition request will arrange the disconnection and removal of the meter and the overhead service cable.
Underground areas
A demolition request will arrange the disconnection and removal of the metering equipment.
It is the responsibility of the owner to remove the underground cable between the pillar and the building.
Existing CT metering
If the metering installation has a CT (typically large premises) then the property owner needs to:
- Obtain a quotation for CT meter removal by completing an application for relocation/removal of Western Power assets form (PDF 110kb).
- Make arrangements for the removal of the underground consumer mains.
Direct cabling
Some commercial premises, especially in the Perth and Fremantle central business districts, are connected via an underground cable directly from the street mains. If you think this may be the case, call 13 10 87 to arrange removal of the cable.
