Western Power to restart negotiations after failed employee vote
Release Date: 29 June 2009
Western Power Managing Director, Mr Doug Aberle said today that he was disappointed with the NO vote recorded from employees for a new five year employee collective agreement. The company would now consider its position and the terms and conditions of a new agreement.
"Once the business has developed a new proposal it will return to the negotiating table to secure a new deal for its employees.
"The new deal would inevitably reflect the current economic conditions and it would be difficult to offer a similar deal as the one previously offered to employees and the union.
"The business is committed to continuing to improve its efficiency and productivity. Any outcomes will need to involve more flexible approaches to work in line with similar changes introduced elsewhere in the business.
"It is anticipated that a deal could take many months, unfortunately delaying the provision of better pay and conditions to employees," Mr Aberle said.
