New site for Baldivis substation

It was incorrectly reported in the Sound Telegraph that the session was to be held on 17 September – the session will be held on Thursday 24 September.
Western Power had planned to locate the Baldivis substation at 780 Eighty Road, Baldivis (Site 1). These plans were reviewed when a local landowner recently offered to swap their land for the proposed substation site at Site 1.
Using an internationally recognised assessment methodology to assess all three sites, Western Power found the location on Pike Road, otherwise known as site 3, to be the most suitable.
Western Power General Manager Customer Services, Mr Mark de Laeter said that the new site impacted fewer properties, is closer to existing infrastructure making it cheaper and less intrusive to construct. This gives Western Power the ability to better design the substation with lesser visual impact.
“As part of the process we are encouraging residents to get involved and help us design the landscaping that will screen the substation from view.
“While Site 1 has been signposted as a proposed substation for some time, I believe it was important Western Power remain open minded about alternatives should they arise,” Mr de Laeter said.
Western Power will be holding a community outreach session on Thursday 24 September. The aim of the outreach session is to help the community understand Western Power’s decision making processes and why site 3 is the preferred option.
Residents are encouraged to come along to the Baldivis Community Centre on 1 Huxtable Terrace, Baldivis between 5 – 8pm to speak with Western Power representatives and the consultants involved in the assessment methodology.
