New Access Arrangement a step closer
Release Date: 11 September 2009
Western Power has re-submitted its second Access Arrangement (AA2) to the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA). The finalised Arrangement will determine the capital and operating expenditure for the organisation from 09/10-11/12.
General Manager Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Mr Phil Southwell said that Western Power had now responded fully to all 46 amendments handed down by the ERA in its July Draft Decision.
“Western Power’s response represents another step along the path to securing an agreement with the regulator for future expenditure on the electricity network.
“Western Power remains committed to reducing public safety risks across its network, which stretches over 322,000 square kilometres. However, as is the case with every network in the world, a certain level of risk will always remain.
“The majority of amendments proposed by the ERA have been accepted by Western Power – evidence that the Regulatory process is working here in WA.
“Western Power’s submission to the ERA is all about ensuring that Western Australian’s are provided with a value for money safe and reliable electricity network.”
“Our submission to the ERA strikes a balance between investing in infrastructure to meet existing and future needs while recognising the changed economic conditions that have affected power demand.
“Due to the Global Financial Crisis demand for connection to the network has slowed allowing Western Power to reduce its planned expenditure on the network and minimise upward pressure on price.
“Western Power will continue to work cooperatively with the ERA in the coming months to finalise the Access Arrangement,” Mr Southwell said.
Western Power is hopeful of a final determination on the AA2 submission before the end of 2009.
