Western Power works on the Toodyay line
Release Date: 23 May 2008
Western Power has confirmed that following the success of the new line from Northam to Toodyay further works will be undertaken in the area during 2008/2009.
Western Power has announced that the $4 million 30 km line from Northam to Toodyay (completed in December 2007) has significantly improved the reliability of the power supply to Toodyay.
Western Power spokesman Mr Chris Cox said the new line is the second major power supply line to Toodyay and has a number of benefits.
"This new main line to supply Toodyay from Northam allows us to deliver power along two routes.
"At most points the two lines are far enough apart to ensure power supplies can be maintained if there is damage from events such as bushfires that affect one of the lines," Mr Cox said.

The new line means two significant projects in the area are to be undertaken in 2008/2009.
"The extra electricity and the additional supply route provided by the new line will enable Western Power to undertake more work to improve the delivery of electricity to the area," Mr Cox said.
Western Power will commence work on rebuilding the existing line between Toodyay and Bolgart later in the year to improve the power supply to Bolgart customers. The Toodyay- Bolgart line will run for 25.7 km and when complete will cost an estimated $1.8 million.
The Northam to Toodyay line (completed in December 2007) will also facilitate the rebuilding and refurbishment of the old line from Northam to Toodyay with only minor disruptions to customers.
The $1.5 million rebuild of the old Northam Toodyay line (constructed in the 1960's) will further increase the capacity and reliability of power supplies to the area.
The new projects are part of Western Power and the State Government's commitment to the regional network through the Rural Power Improvement Project.
