Western Power presented six junior regional cricketers with awards at the WACA on March 2 at the culmination of this season’s Western Power Regional Junior Cricket Program.
The winners were picked from thousands of participants as the worthiest junior cricketers in their region. Each winner received a cricket bat signed by all of the Western Warriors, a tour of the WACA museum, a guided tour of the historic scoreboard and tickets to watch the Western Warriors play the Victorian Bushrangers.
The winners also had the chance to meet the Western Warriors after the match.
Western Power spokesperson Miriam Borthwick said it was a special day for the junior cricketers.
“The kids really enjoyed the day. Such opportunities help instil a passion for the game and provides country kids with something they can remember for the rest of their lives,” Ms Borthwick said.
Ms Borthwick said it was exciting to see that two of the winners this year were girls.
“It is rewarding to think Western Power is encouraging girls in regional WA to take up cricket. One of the girls, 14 year old Chloe Piparo from Bunbury, could only attend briefly in the morning because she was committed to play a women’s A Grade match on the day.”
Every year Western Power sponsors the Western Power Regional Cricket Program to give regional juniors an opportunity to have access to high level coaching.
Western Power Regional Junior Cricket Program takes its travelling clinic across the state, covering an area of over 800,000 square kms to deliver quality cricket coaching to juniors in isolated communities.
Western Power has sponsored the Regional Junior Cricket Program since 1997.
