Western Power sponsors Koorda and Cadoux firefighters

Western Power has provided over $7500 in funding for volunteer bushfire brigades in Koorda and Cadoux for the purchase of important equipment.

Western Power provided the Cadoux volunteer bushfire brigade with $2,776 for the purchase of a fridge and two hand held radio units and the Koorda brigade with $4800 for the purchase of two water tanks.

The equipment will to help the volunteer bushfire brigades fight fires more safely, comfortably and efficiently.

Western Power’s Chris Cox said the sponsorship was in recognition of the invaluable work the volunteer brigades did in protecting lives, property and Western Power infrastructure.

"Western Power is very pleased to help the Koorda and Cadoux volunteer brigades to purchase this equipment.

"Western Power believes the equipment will make the job of protecting local communities from the threat of bushfire safer and more efficient.

"We also hope this equipment serves as a small token of our appreciation of the work these brave volunteers do, week in and week out," Mr Cox said.

Western Power is providing $80,000 worth of equipment to volunteer bushfire fighting units as part of a three year, $300,000 commitment to volunteer bushfire fighting groups and FESA.

The sponsorship provides a $5000 grant for equipment at volunteer bushfire fighting groups.

The funding is part of Western Power’s bushfire sponsorship scheme launched in November 2007. All funding for 2007/08 has now been allocated, the next round of grants will be open again in the second half of 2008.
