Western Power on the right track in Collie
Release Date: 29 April 2008
Western Power is getting behind the Bibbulmun Track Foundation and helping to maintain sections of the track near Collie.
Western Power’s sponsorship of the Bibbulmun Track Foundation includes the provision of a Corporate Maintenance Team and the training of Bibbulmun Track Foundation staff and volunteers to ensure the Bibbulmun Track remains one of the great walking tracks in the world.
The Western Power Corporate Maintenance team is made up of Western Power staff and their families who maintain a five kilometre section of the track located just south of Collie and including the Yabberup campsite.
Western Power Senior Environmental Officer Ms Olivia Hertsted said Western Power volunteers completed the second round of maintenance work on the track on April 12 and 13.
“The Western Power staff volunteers who worked on our section of track near Collie are excited to be involved in maintaining this state treasure.
“Western Power’s call for volunteers was so successful that we have more than 50 registered volunteers, with each maintenance session limited to 15 volunteers,” Ms Hertsted said.
Western Power sends a volunteer group to the section of track every six weeks, replacing track markers, pruning and weeding, and removing rubbish and light debris.
“Western Power is proud to sponsor the Bibbulmun Track Foundation and with a length of over 1000 kilometres we are pleased to help maintain this natural treasure in whatever way we can,” Ms Hertsted said.
Western Power has been involved with the Bibbulmun Track Foundation since November 2007.
The next maintenance team will perform work on the track at the end of May.
