Western Power makes donation to Kangaroo Gully bushfire brigade

Release Date: 28 April 2008

Western power has funded the Kangaroo Gully Fire brigade with $5000 for the purchase of a lifting frame for mobile fire fighting units.

Western Power spokesman Mr Brian Zanich said the lifting frame would assist the brigade by lifting the removable mobile fire fighting units on and off utes.

"The lifting frame will lift the mobile units on and off vehicles quickly and with a minimum of effort. The mobile unit usually includes a mobile water tank, a pump and hose reel in one and they are vital for fast-response fire fighting.

"By making the removal and installation of the mobile units faster and easier Western Power is assisting the brigade to fight fires more efficiently," said Mr Zanich.

Mr Zanich said the sponsorship was in recognition of the invaluable work the volunteer brigades did in protecting lives, property and Western Power infrastructure.

"Western Power is very pleased to help the Kangaroo Gully volunteer bushfire brigade purchase this equipment and we hope it serves as a small token of our appreciation of the work these brave volunteers do week in and week out," Mr Zanich said.

Western Power is providing $80,000 worth of equipment to volunteer bushfire fighting units as part of a three year, $300,000 commitment to volunteer bushfire fighting groups and FESA.

The sponsorship provides a $5000 grant for equipment at volunteer bushfire fighting groups.

The funding is part of Western Power’s bushfire sponsorship scheme launched in November 2007. All funding for 2007/08 has now been allocated, the next round of grants will be open again in the second half of 2008.
