Stuart Morgan Scholarship winner 2008

Western Power yesterday awarded its annual Stuart Morgan Scholarship to an Esperance student for the second time in three years and what’s more, the 2008 scholarship holder is the sister of the 2006 Esperance winner.
Western Power today announced that Esperance Senior High School’s 2007 Dux, Elisha Clifton was this year’s Stuart Morgan scholar. Elisha’s sister Ashleigh won the award in 2006.
The scholarship is awarded annually to regional students enrolling for their first year of study in a degree in electrical engineering or commerce.
Elisha will receive $6500 annually from Western Power for the duration of her degree in Electrical Engineering and Science at The University of Western Australia.
Western Power’s Managing Director Mr Doug Aberle said Elisha was an outstanding applicant.
"Elisha’s clear commitment to her community, to her academic studies and to achieving in the future made her a leading candidate.
"Electrical Engineering studies provide an excellent foundation for a rewarding career and with the growing requirement for those in the energy sector to respond to the challenges of climate change many stimulating challenges exist.
"Western Power is proud to award this scholarship as a way to encourage regional students to undertake studies at a university in Perth," Mr Aberle.
"We are also pleased to support a female student undertaking studies in Electrical Engineering as the mix of male and females in engineering creates an interactive dynamic and encourages different thinking and innovative solutions."
The scholarship is named for Stuart Morgan, a former Chairman of the State Energy Commission of WA.
