Storm damage - 4:30pm update

Power has been restored to the majority of customers affected by today’s storm.

In the metropolitan area there are currently around 1,500 customers without power including faults in Thornlie, Dianella, North Perth, Byford and Duncraig.

South of the river suburbs are also impacted with faults currently recorded in Palmyra, Kardinya, Mt Pleasant and Beaconsfield.

This afternoon faults in the Geraldton and Three Springs area have increased as damaging winds cross the coast further north.  A number of reports of poles and powerlines down have been received and Western Power is urging residents in affected areas to stay clear of fallen powerlines and call 13 13 51 to report a fault or hazard.

Restoration work has already begun, however due to the strong winds Western Power crews may have to delay restoration work to ensure their own safety while using overhead equipment.  It is expected that a number of customers in these areas will be without power this evening.  Currently 1,900 customers are affected to the north of Perth.

In the metropolitan area substantial damage was sustained through the Myaree, Riverton and Canning Vale area, it is expected some small pockets may remain without power overnight.

Currently a total of 4,000 customers are without power, the major faults include.

Suburbs that have had power restored include Yanchep, Fremantle, Kalamunda, East Perth, Belmont, Ascot, Three Springs, Geraldton and Pingelly.

All planned work has been deferred and all crews are available to restore power. .

Storm damage - 3:30pm update

The majority of customers affected by today’s storm have had their power restored; over 17,000 properties have regained power since the storm crossed the coast just before lunchtime.

At the height of the power interruptions over 23,000 customers were affected.

The larger faults in the metropolitan area have now been cleared; Western Power is now focusing on the smaller faults while repair works continue.  Currently 1,400 customers are affected in the metropolitan area.

Over the last hour, faults in the Geraldton and Three Springs area have increased as damaging winds cross the coast further north.  A number of reports of poles and powerlines down have been received and Western Power is urging residents in affected areas to stay clear of fallen powerlines and call 13 13 51 to report a fault or hazard.

Repair work will commence in these areas once winds have reduced, this is to ensure the safety of Western Power staff while using overhead equipment.  It is expected that a number of customers in these areas will be without power this evening.  Currently 3,500 customers are affected to the north of Perth.

Western Power is working with SES and other emergency services personnel to get power restored and hazards cleared as soon as possible.

Western Power has been able to restore power to over 10,000 properties since the storm crossed the coast just before lunchtime.

Work to clear the damage is continuing as crews survey the damage caused by the storm and clear hazards from downed powerlines and power poles. 

Western Power has received reports that substantial damage was sustained through the Myaree, Riverton and Canning Vale area, it is expected some small pockets in this area may remain without power overnight.

Western Power is working with SES and other emergency services personnel to get power restored and hazards cleared as soon as possible.

Western Power is cleaning up the damage this morning after strong winds and debris caused damage to the metropolitan area.  Crews are continuing to survey damage caused by the storm and have begun to restore power where possible. 

Western Power has received reports that substantial damage was sustained through the Myaree, Riverton and Canning Vale area, it is expected some small pockets in this area may remain without power overnight.

Western Power is cleaning up the damage this morning after strong winds and debris caused damage to mainly southern metropolitan suburbs.

Western Power has received reports that substantial damage was sustained through the Myaree, Reverton and Canning Vale area.

At the height of the power interruptions approximately 16,500 customers were affected by power interruptions.

Western Power is cleaning up the damage this morning after strong winds and debris caused damage to mainly southern metropolitan suburbs.

The worst areas affected include Riverton, Palmyra, Myaree, Booragoon and Melville where a number of street wires and individual service wires have come down.

Western Power has received reports that substantial damage was sustained through the Myaree, Reverton and Canning Vale area.

Currently 12,500 customers are without power, the major faults include.

  • 3400 – out of the Riverton substation
  • 3000 – out of the Kalamunda substation
  • 1600 – out of the Yanchep substation
  • 600 – out of the Darlington substation
