Outages needed for power work in Bindoon, New Norcia and Muchea
Release Date: 27 November 2008
Western Power will be carrying out an upgrade to the power network in the north east wheatbelt in early December to improve reliability of power supplies in the Bindoon, New Norcia and Muchea area.
The work is part of the business’ 40 worst feeder program, a targeted maintenance program aimed at improving power supplies to areas prone to power interruptions.
Western Power spokesperson Marisa Chapman said that as part of the improvement work, a planned power interruption is required on 5 December from 8am to 2pm.
Approximately 980 people will be affected by this planned interruption, a map outlining the area affected is available at www.westernpower.com.au in the media updates section.
“Local residents with electric water pumps are asked to ensure they have adequate water supplies for personal use before work commences at 8am.
“Western Power appreciates the frustration that comes with power interruptions both planned and unplanned and we thank residents for their patience while this important work is carried out.
“The upgrade will be conducted by Western Power and its subcontractor, Theiss, on the 22,000 volt powerline coming into Bindoon and running east to New Norcia.
“This work will cost approximately $100,000 and will involve replacing pole structures, high voltage cross-arms and insulators,” Ms Chapman said.
Fire and traffic management will be in place, although minimal impact to local traffic is anticipated as the bulk of the work will be along minor roads and in paddocks.
