Mount Barker receives bushfire sponsorships
Release Date: 29 April 2008
Western Power has continued the support of volunteer bushfire brigades by providing the Forrest Hill volunteer bushfire brigade with funding for the purchase of vital equipment.
With help from Western Power the Forrest Hill volunteer bushfire brigade, located 20 kms west of Mount Barker in the Shire of Plantagenet, has now purchased $1370 worth of parts required to build a fast fill pump.
The fast fill pump allows the brigade to refill water tank more quickly so it can transport water to where it is needed most.
Western Power spokesman Kerrin Digney said Western Power was proud to sponsor the Mordalup Brigade.
“We hope this equipment serves as a small token of our appreciation of the work these brave volunteers do, week in and week out,” Mr Digney said.
“They protect lives and property, including Western Power infrastructure, allowing people to carry on normally with their lives during bushfire season.”
Western Power is providing $80,000 worth of equipment to volunteer bushfire fighting units as part of a three year, $300,000 commitment to volunteer bushfire fighting groups and FESA.
The sponsorship provides a $5000 grant for equipment at volunteer bushfire fighting groups.
The funding is part of Western Power’s bushfire sponsorship scheme launched in November 2007. All funding for 2007/08 has now been allocated, the next round of grants will be open again in the second half of 2008.
