Investigations conclude into Parkerville fire
Release Date: 11 January 2008
Western Power has received Energy Safety's investigation report into the cause of the Parkerville bushfire on Thursday 3 January. Investigations confirmed that a tree growing into, and touching powerlines caused the fire.
Western Power accepts Energy Safety's findings and is working with property owners who have suffered loss or damage.
A Western Power insurance assessor has completed initial assessments and has met all available property owners.
The tree in question was included in a program of work for pruning in accordance with Western Power's priority ratings, but a safety issue with a contractor caused a delay in that work.
Western Power General Manager of Asset Management, Mr Mark de Laeter, says it was a regrettable outcome of important actions that needed to be taken to ensure contractor safety that there was a delay to the program of work.
"Western Power's core value is safety including contractor safety and to overcome the delay we have doubled the number of crews working on vegetation pruning," he said.
Residents can contact 13 13 51 to report any concerns they have about vegetation growing too close to powerlines.
