Generator for Ravensthorpe
Release Date: 18 March 2008
Western Power has installed a mobile power generator at Ravensthorpe to increase the capacity of the power supply to customers this winter.
Western Power installed a 400 kW power generator on 12 March to support the local electricity network during the winter period. Ravensthorpe experiences its highest levels of power consumption during winter.
Western Power spokesperson Mr Leigh Nastasi said the installation of the generator was a precautionary measure.
“Western Power expects the powerline that supplies Ravensthorpe from Gnowangerup will have enough available capacity to meet the demand over winter.
‘We are installing the generator to safeguard electrical supply to local businesses and residents,“ Mr Nastasi said.
The generator will boost the level of voltage, resulting in an increase in the amount of power available to customers if needed.
Mr Nastasi explained that Western Power had implemented a plan to minimise the impact the generator would have on residents.
“The generator will only operate during periods of high demand. It utilises the latest technology to keep noise levels to a minimum during operation,” Mr Nastasi said.
The generator is located at the power station site on the corner of Dance and Martin Streets.
“The site is secure, but we warn people not to enter the site as there is very high voltage electricity inside,” Mr Nastasi said.
Western Power will keep the generator in place for four months but will monitor power usage levels in Ravensthorpe and extend the deployment if necessary.
