Excavator causes power outage

Release Date: 19 March 2008

Western Power has found that a power interruption affecting over 1000 customers in the Cottesloe area on Tuesday 18 March was caused by an excavator that dug into an underground power cable.

The incident occurred on the corner of Curtin Avenue and Jarred Street in Cottesloe affecting customers in the area from 10.05 am until 11.14am.

The underground power cable supplies power to customers in Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove, Cottesloe and North Fremantle.

Western Power spokesperson Mr Leigh Nastasi said crews responded quickly to the fault ensuring customers had their power restored as soon as possible.

“Crews were able to restore power by isolating the fault and diverting power through other areas not affected by the fault,” he added.

Western Power encourages contractors, businesses and individuals who are doing any underground work to use the dial-before-you-dig service and call 1100 to check for the presence of underground utility services.
