Cottesloe substation

Release Date: 08 January 2008

Western Power said the new look of the Cottesloe substation is the result of consultation with the Cottesloe town council.

Western Power spokesperson Marisa Chapman said Western Power has worked closely with the Cottesloe council in coming up with a design for the exterior of the substation.

"We consulted extensively with the Cottesloe council about the plans for the substation's perimeter.

"The steel topping on the walls is a required safety feature designed to keep the public away from potentially dangerous equipment," said Ms Chapman.

Some of the additional measures undertaken by Western Power to beautify the substation included painting the palisades green to fit with existing structures and using masonry blocks to construct the wall.

"The wall is not only more attractive than the old cyclone fence that was used to surround the substation, it also reduces the noise from the substation," Ms Chapman said.

The area surrounding the substation will be landscaped with water wise native plants in 2010 when works upgrading the substation are due to be completed.  The landscape design will be approved by the council before planting commences.
