WA's Boyare Primary School wins Solar Boat Challenge

For the second year in a row, WA has won in the junior section of the National Solar Model Boat Challenge and took out second line honours with Goosebury Hill Primary School's entry ‘Barracuda' which also won the Best Presented Boat Award.

It is only the second time WA has entered its solar boats in the Australian –International event.

Boyare Primary School's entry ‘Boyare Pearl' won the junior section of the Solar Model Boat Challenge and won the title of Best New School.

A large contingent of WA students and staff headed to Adelaide after their success at the recent State Model Car and Boat Challenge.  The students were keen to pit their cars and boats against other students from around the country.

In the Solar Car Challenge, WA's State winner, Belridge High School qualified for the finals but were knocked out in the final stages; the race was eventually won by St Paul's from NSW.

Aquinas College and Winthrop Baptist College were eliminated in the first round. Winthrop Baptist College placed third in the plate event for the bottom 16 placed participants.

Winthrop High School won the award for the best looking car.

Belridge SHS's 'Sun Rise' made it through the first round and finished in the final 16.
 
The event was held on Saturday and Sunday October 27 - 28 at Victoria Square in Adelaide where the Darwin to Adelaide World Solar Challenge finished on Sunday. 

Conditions for the final were sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy - everything in one day.

Western Power would like to congratulate all the students who took part in the 15th running of the solar model events this year and hopes to see them return again next year.
