Volunteer fire fighters win with Western Power sponsorship

Release Date: 12 December 2007

Western Power’s sponsorship of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades has been a huge success with applications rolling in.  Western Power has received 20 applications to date, and 14 approvals for the funding have already been made.

The sponsorship allows for brigades to apply for up to $5,000 worth of equipment.

Brigades have applied for a wide range of different equipment, from new water tanks to satellite phones, whiteboards, GPS navigation units and even extensions to the local brigade.

Western Power spokesperson Marisa Chapman said the funding would assist local fire fighting brigades to protect their communities from the threat of bushfires.

“FESA volunteer brigades from towns from Bridgetown to Geraldton and other areas throughout the network are set to benefit from Western Power’s funding.

“Western Power is very proud to assist the selfless men and women of volunteer bush fire fighting brigades, who protect both their communities and the Western Power infrastructure,” Ms Chapman said.

Applications will remain open until funding for this year has been allocated.
