Two options identified for new Power transmission line
Release Date: 13 June 2007
Western Power today announced the extensive community consultation process to determine a preferred corridor for the Eneabba - Moonyoonooka 330,000 volt transmission line project had narrowed down the line corridor options to two from the original sixteen.
A final decision on the line route corridor will be made by Western Power executives within the next fortnight.
Western Power’s Major Project’s Coordinator, Mr Ian Buchanan, said that over the past ten months Western Power had consulted with the community and other stakeholders to determine a series of corridor options between the existing Eneabba substation and a proposed substation in Moonyoonooka.
“Once a final decision is made affected landowners will be advised of the preferred corridor route.
“We will then work with them to determine their line route preferences within that corridor.
“The identified options were assessed against a series of sustainability principles that took into account social, cultural, environmental, economic and technical considerations.
“The community was an integral part of this process and helped us understand the features it considered important. We were able to use that information to create sustainability assessment criteria and rate each line route option against each other.
“Western Power will now review the outcomes and recommendations gathered from the consultation sessions to ensure all relevant information has been included in the assessment.
“Once a final decision is made and directly affected landowners are contacted then the broader community will be advised of the preferred corridor via a series of advertisements in local papers and on radio.
“Letters will also be sent to stakeholders and community members who have been involved in the process to date,” Mr Buchanan said.
The proposed Eneabba - Moonyoonooka 330 kV transmission line project is the largest transmission project undertaken by Western Power in 20 years and will ensure that the growing demands for electricity in the Mid West region are met.
