Submissions invited on power solution to Mid West
Release Date: 23 March 2007
Western Power is inviting the public to lodge submissions in relation to its proposal to build a 330,000 Volt transmission line to improve power supplies in the Mid West region.
Western Power's General Manager Asset Management, Mr Mark de Laeter, said the business had developed a number of options for the Mid West and that Western Power's preference is for a new transmission line between Pinjar and Moonyoonooka.
“The public is invited to comment on an alternative option or on Western Power’s preferred option.
“A document outlining the options and an invitation to lodge submissions, is available on the web at: www.westernpower.com.au,” he said.
Population growth and new mining and industrial projects have prompted the need to provide a significant power supply solution to the area, which is required to be in place in 2011.
Western Power's preference for a new transmission line would enable new generation, including environmentally friendly wind farms, to connect to the network.
This is the first project Western Power will undertake as part of the new regulated market in which Western Power now operates.
A public forum will be held in the Perth Town Hall on Wednesday 4 April at 1 pm.
“The forum will provide technical details about the proposed transmission line and facilitate discussion on all options,” Mr de Laeter said.
All public submissions are to be lodged by 5 pm Wednesday 18 April 2007.
A separate community consultation process is currently underway to identify possible land corridors for the proposed line route.
