New powerline route decided

Release Date: 14 May 2007

Construction of a $27 million new transmission line from Pinjar to Wanneroo is set to proceed now that negotiations about a section of the route along the future extension of Flynn Drive, Carramar, leading up to Wanneroo Road, have been resolved.

The line route has the support of the Council of the City of Wanneroo.

Manager of the Environment and Land Management section, Mr Rudy Teh said that construction of the line along the future extension of Flynn Drive is expected to commence later this month.  Work on other sections of the line in the existing section of Flynn Drive began earlier this year.

"Discussions with a number of parties have been proceeding for several months now and Western Power is now able to proceed down a route that has the support of the Wanneroo City Council and most directly affected landowners.

"Western Power is building the 132,000 volt (132 kV) line to meet the growing need for electricity and to provide future power supplies for planned development in the City of Wanneroo," he said.

The City of Wanneroo's population is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.8 per cent over the next five years, which is well in excess of the state average.

Western Power expects to complete the new 132 kV transmission line from Pinjar to Wanneroo by November 2007.

Work has already commenced at both the Pinjar and Wanneroo ends of the transmission line.
