Kalbarri power improvements
Release Date: 14 March 2007
During the last two years, Western Power has taken a number of steps to improve the reliability of power supplies in Kalbarri.
Western Power's Managing Director Mr Doug Aberle said that Kalbarri's location at the northern most point of the electricity network inevitably poses challenges to providing a reliable power supply.
"The latest project undertaken to improve the reliability of supply was to install a new 33 kV powerline from Northampton to Port Gregory, which was energised on 22 February 2007
"The new powerline will reduce the burden on the existing 33 kV Geraldton to Kalbarri powerline and improve the security of power supplies in the area.
"In addition Western Power has completed a program to wash powerlines and silicone coat pole top equipment along the 150 km length of the powerline from Geraldton to Kalbarri to reduce the risk of pole top fires.
"Ongoing regular aerial patrols along the powerline have also allowed Western Power to identify faults and potential hazards early. All hazards, even those presenting minimal risk to power supply, were rectified.
"I am pleased to report that this work has reduced the length and duration of power interruptions.
Western Power will continue to monitor any power supply issues in Kalbarri to ensure improved levels of reliability are consistently achieved.
