Dual winners of Western Power's Kirkwood Scholarship

Western Power's prestigious Bruce Kirkwood Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to two engineering students this year.
The scholarship recipients are Ryan Ragno of Morley, who has just finished his second year of an electrical engineering degree at Curtin University and David Reilly of Victoria Park, who has just completed his first year of an electrical and electronic engineering degree at UWA.
Both students will receive $6,314 per year for the final years of their degree. The students will also be offered vacation employment with Western Power during their summer academic break.
Western Power's eminent Bruce Kirkwood Memorial Scholarship was established in 1992 to honour the first Commissioner of the State Energy Commission of WA.
The scholarship aims to continue the high standards of engineering excellence pioneered under the leadership of Bruce Kirkwood. The scholarship also promotes and encourages electrical engineering as a field of study.
Western Power's Managing Director Doug Aberle said Western Power was honoured to provide motivated and intelligent professionals with the opportunity to make significant contributions in the provision of electricity in WA.
"What drew our attention to Ryan and David was their enthusiasm for electrical engineering and excellent academic results."
"We look forward to welcoming Ryan and David to Western Power for their summer break and wish them well for the remainder of their studies," Mr Aberle said.
Scholarship winner David Reilly said working in the field of electrical engineering was an exciting prospect.
"The expansion of Western Australia's electrical infrastructure holds many exciting challenges for future electrical engineers," David said.
Ryan Ragno, joint winner of the scholarship said he was excited by the prospect of working with Western Power's experienced engineers.
"I am eager to learn from the practical experience and knowledge of real engineers in the industry," Ryan said.
