Community Workshops for proposed Chapman - Northampton powerline

Release Date: 27 September 2007

Western Power is calling on interested community members to provide comment on potential corridors for its proposed transmission line between an existing substation in Spalding and a proposed substation in Northampton.

Potential corridors can be viewed on Western Power's website under current projects at westernpower.com.au

The new powerline is required to meet the growing demand for power in the region, which will reach capacity in 2011.

Western Power's Major Project's Coordinator, Mr Ian Buchanan said that getting the community involved early in the project was vital to its success and would help to ensure that Western Power had all the information it needed to choose the best location for the line.

"The community workshops are a great way to exchange information.  We get to keep the community updated on the project, and the community can tell us important information about their area that we may not otherwise be aware of.

"That way when it comes to choosing a line corridor we have all the relevant information to ensure it is placed in the area of least impact.

"People who attend these workshops will be able to provide their input and comment on a series of draft corridor options which were identified after previous information sessions held earlier this year," Mr Buchanan said.

The Community Workshops will be held at the Northampton RSL Hall on Wednesday 17 October from 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm, and in Spalding at the Brigades Football Club on Thursday 18 October, from 1 pm - 4 pm and then again from 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm.

After the workshops Western Power and independent consultants, Strategen, will refine the draft corridor options and conduct a full analysis to determine the most suitable, least impact option for the community.

This analysis will carefully consider a variety of social, economic, environmental and technical criteria, which have been developed in consultation with the community.
