Learning about safety

We use electricity every day and it is an important part of our day-to-day life. It is therefore important to be aware of the dangers of electricity and to stay safe. Our ShockProof tips are designed to educate students on safety around electricity.

Safety at home

  • Switches, plugs, appliances and power points are not toys – never play with them.
  • Do not overload power points by piggybacking adaptors – this can results in fires.
  • Electricity and water do not mix – do not have appliances near water.
  • Have safety switches installed at your home.
  • Call 000 in an emergency.

Safety outside

  • Do not play around power poles and wires that carry electricity.
  • Stay on the ground – never climb up to touch a powerline.
  • Stay away from electrical substations.
  • Stay away from fallen powerlines – DO NOT TOUCH!
  • Follow instructions on safety signs.
